Interested in being a Ref!

The Beach Brawl SK8R Dolls, LLC is excited that you are interested in being a referee for our league. As a professional league we do have a screening process that we require for all volunteers. This screening process involves the completion of an application and an interview process with a league committee. Please read through referee requirements and then fill out the attached application.

Requirements:

  • We are a DIY all women roller derby league that is run by the skaters for the skaters. We are not paid to skate, but instead we pay dues, and volunteer our time and money to be part of this league. All referee positions are volunteer only, and you will not receive a wage or salary for this service.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain insurance through USARS regardless if you have your own health care insurance. USARS will require a yearly payment. All of our derby skaters are required to carry USARS insurance. USARS is a roller sports health insurance.

  • You will be required to attend practices to skate and exercise with the Beach Brawl SK8R Dolls. At practice you will be required to use referee knowledge to assist coaches and with scrimmages.

  • You will be required to learn the official WFTDA rules, and base official calls on knowledge of these rules.  You will need to supply your own referee uniform, safety gear, whistles, stop-watches, and any other essential or required items.  (Rules and signal info can be found at www.wftda.com)

  • You will be required to remove personal biases out of your official calls and not discriminate based on gender, sexual orientation, race, nepotism, or religion.

  • You will be required to take advice and follow decisions from head referees, captains, and the Training Committee.

  • You will be aware of and follow the BBSD Code of Conduct.

  • During the official season once the schedule is set, you will need to be available for bouts. Depending on the amount of referees an attendance policy will be set, and a minimum attendance requirement will need to be fulfilled.

We believe that you will find being part of the Beach Brawl SK8R Dolls is a rewarding and valuable experience.  To receive an info packet or set up an interview please contact us through our MySpace page, our Yahoo Fan Group, or our Web site at www.beachbrawlsk8rdolls.com.
